Elements & Artifacts
Alicia Dabney is definitely one of my favourite jewelry designers out there – not only is her jewelry incredibly beautiful, but the designs are inspired by amazing stories and histories. In Alicia’s own words,
I see both simple and complex mystery in life. History, elements, myths, legends, traditions and customs, old cultures, artistic movements, and spiritual and magical beliefs have all found their way into Elements & Artifacts.
I bought a necklace from Elements & Artifacts recently called The Oak King – not only was I drawn to the unique style of the piece, but the meaning behind it too: in reality, the Oak King and the Holly King are two parts of the same thing: the waxing and waning of the yearly cycles of the earth.. For someone who is currently heading into winter, this provides great comfort, and I have loved wearing this necklace as a constant reminder of the importance of balance. This ability to tell a story, to have a meaning, is what makes Alicia’s jewelry so special.
Alicia’s most recent update – launched today! – is inspired by The Eleusinian Mysteries, and captures the spirit of Greek gods and goddesses such as Brigid, Dionysus, Hecate, Nox, and Ares:
The Eleusinian Mysteries were initiation ceremonies held every year for the cult of Demeter and Persephone and were based at Eleusis in ancient Greece. Of all the mysteries celebrated in ancient times, these were held to be the ones of greatest importance.
The rites, ceremonies, and beliefs were kept secret, as initiation was believed to unite the worshipper with the gods and included promises of divine power and rewards in the afterlife.
Click on the images to go straight to the item in Alicia’s store, or else visit Elements & Artifacts for more amazing pieces by this talented artist. You can also find her work at Black Phoenix Trading Post and Adorna Bella (& I haven’t even mentioned her other art and design work – I think I’ll need to save that for another post!)
{more lovely examples after the cut!}
